DST Redesign
Let's make an update
Site Redesign

I was hired in 2016 to become the new in-house webmaster. They wanted something new, fresh, and an experience that was built with ADA compliance in mind. After months of research and surveying users on their opinions on the current site, I made mock-ups and gathered feedback from diverse groups as often as I could. The final version launched on January 1st, 2018 and I am proud of the process that got us here and the site that gets over 70,000 hits per month.

How it happened
The Process
Using the software design lifecycle as a guiding structure, I lead the redesign of the website of the largest African American membership organization in the world.

Conducted a website audit of the site in 13 areas including colors, responsiveness, and organization. Presented findings to stakeholders and proceeded with conducting surveys on site usability from various users that represent diverse groups. Looked into the current best practices and proceeded to design.

Wireframes and mockups were created and shared for feedback on a bi-weekly basis until a prototype was developed. By the second iteration, I had a test group of users with accessibility needs to test features such as the 'skip to content' or scan pages with their Screen Readers and provide comments.

A launch plan was created by the National President & CEO Beverly E. Smith for January 1st, 2018. The rollout included promotional videos and messages to the membership base. The weekend of, I set up a landing page and began the transition practically triple checking every link, page, and caption.

Having no issues, the landing page was removed and reception was amazing. Job well done and completed.
